PhoneBook


With ever longer phone numbers, it is easier to dial them once only and save them in your electronic PhoneBook. As with a "paper" PhoneBook, writing a name makes finding and calling the number easy.

Writing in PhoneBook

Digit keys

Dial the full number.

Dial complete number:
Always enter the complete number including area code. For easier use abroad, enter international code starting with +, (see also Link International Dialling).

Writing Letters

Press the number / letter keys repeatedly. The cursor advances after a short delay.

Clearing

Press to erase the letter before the cursor, hold down to erase word by word.

Hints for Advanced Use

  • Use the Red PhoneBook for priority numbers Link to sectionRed PhoneBook.
  • You may enter a range of numbers for the same person, e.g.:

    Carol M (Mobile)
    Carol H (Home)
  • You may also make entries by opening your PhoneBook.

Calling from PhoneBook

Open your PhoneBook.

Write first letter of required name, e.g. E (for Edith) and/or scroll to highlight the required name.

Press to show "PhoneBook Menu".

Soft key

Scroll and select Clear Phonebook.

You will invited to select the PhoneBook you wish to delete.

Note: You may also use this Menu for changing or deleting individual entries.

Own Phone Number

The first entry in your PhoneBook can be used for your own number. You may also store other reference numbers (eg Fax), these cannot be directly called. Entering your number(s) and a suitable name is similar to writing in the PhoneBook.

Checking Phone Numbers

Dialling Extension Numbers

You can save a business exchange number. To call various extension numbers, highlight the exchange number:

Select, and add the extension number before calling.

Red PhoneBook

When your PhoneBook has many entries, you can enter priority names in your Red PhoneBook, for more direct access. When you receive an identified call, matching a ’red’ entry, you will hear a distinctive ring (see Link Volume and Tone).

Writing a New Entry

Enter the number and name as for the normal PhoneBook.

"!" is added to the name to assign the entry to the Red PhoneBook.

Calling from Red PhoneBook

PhoneBook key

Press twice and proceed as for normal PhoneBook.

Transferring to Red PhoneBook

PhoneBook key

Press, scroll and highlight the required entry.
Proceed as for "Changing Entries" Link Changing Entries, pressing Tel No then Edit.

Press twice to confirm number and name.

Press.

Confirm.

"!" (indicating Red PhoneBook) will be added to the name.
You may use the same procedure to transfer from Red PhoneBook. To totally delete an entry, please follow procedure
Deleting Entries (see Link Deleting Entries).

Memory numbers

You may also use memory numbers to call, but it may be difficult to remember many.

Controlling Memory Numbers

The memory number is assigned automatically when you make a PhoneBook entry, you can, however control this:
Save the phone number as normal, and enter name, or if preferred, leave the name blank (press OK). The memory number is now shown with a flashing cursor.

Clearing

Clear memory number.

Digit keys

Enter your preferred memory number.

Confirm.

Note if the number is already occupied, you will be asked to swap or delete the old entry.

If the number is named, select the entry as usual:

Press to scroll in reverse direction.

Alternative PhoneBook Memories

There are 3 different PhoneBook memories:

PhoneBook

Normal and Red PhoneBook, stored in SIM.

PhoneBook

PhoneBook stored in Phone Memory.

PhoneBook

Restricted PhoneBook in SIM (requires PIN 2).

Normally your PhoneBook entries are stored in your SIM, enabling your PhoneBook to be transferred to another phone.
The SIM PhoneBook capacity varies, when it is full, entries will overflow automatically into the phone’s memory, shown + PhoneBook. You may also control this process for special applications Link Limit Phone).

Storing in Alternative PhoneBooks

Storing DTMF Control Codes

You can save code numbers for controlling remote services (e.g. Answering Machine).

Enter the phone number.

Hold down until "+" appears.

Hold down again to create a 3 second pause. Repeat this if a longer pause is required (needed for some systems).

Enter the DTMF number.

Save

Press and add suitable name as usual.

You may alternatively just save the Control Code, and send it during a call, but note special procedure (see Link Send DTMF Tones).

Checking Capacity

PhoneBook key

Press to open PhoneBook.

Menu key

Select "Capacity".

Remote Control of PhoneBook

You may create and manage your own PhoneBook using a PC and the Data Link Accessory (see Link Soft Data Link. Your Service Provider may also be able to send or update your PhoneBook as required.

Services PhoneBook

Your Operator or Service Provider may supply your SIM with a number of PhoneBook entries for useful services. If so, you will see Services as the second entry. This "PhoneBook" may alternatively be offered on a soft key Link Fast Dialling Keys.

PhoneBook Restrictions

Please see Link Control Use. Note that your PhoneBook may already be restricted (normal for some business applications).

Partial Number Restrictions

Your Restricted PhoneBook can offer an incomplete number (shown as "?").

Replace the questionmarks with the required numbers.
